On January 19, 1950, the very first service was held in a dance pavilion at Long Acre Park with just twelve people in attendance. A few months later, the church was officially organized with seventeen members, and the foundation was laid for what God would continue to build in the years ahead.
Through the decades, the church grew as people gathered to hear the gospel, grow in their faith, and serve their community. New buildings were constructed, ministries expanded across the city, and thousands of lives were impacted through preaching, discipleship, Christian education, and outreach.
In 2006, after years of prayer and perseverance, the church opened its current location after renovating the Racquets Four Sports Facility. Nearly one thousand people gathered for the first service, marking the beginning of a new chapter.
On January 1, 2016, Pastor Matt Roller became the fourth pastor of Indianapolis Baptist Temple. Having grown up in the church, he and his wife Bekah continue to lead with a heart to see people grow in their faith and find their place in a Christ centered community.
Today, Indianapolis Baptist Temple continues to move forward with the same purpose that started it all: helping people know Jesus, grow in their faith, and live the abundant life He offers.
